Outdoor activity does not have to cease or even slow down in the winter, no matter how much “winter” Minnesota gets! Minnetonka has several ways to get great exercise, fresh air, and enjoy family time year round.
If you are a fan of cross country skiing, look no farther than Glen Lake Golf Course. Since snow makes it just about impossible to enjoy a round of golf, the course doubles as a ski trail beginning December 15. As long as the weather cooperates, cross country skiers of all skill levels will enjoy the 2.5-kilometer trail across the golf courses natural landscape. Ski’s can be rented at the golf center.
Do you enjoy ice skating? Minnesota is the place to be! Seven Minnetonka parks have outdoor public ice rinks opening December 19 through February 15, weather permitting. It’s a wonderful way to practice a new skill, have a romantic outing with your sweetheart, enjoy great laughs with your family, or just have an afternoon of exercise in the exhilarating winter air.
If you are new to our winter wonderland activities, consider taking some skating lessons at the Minnetonka Ice Arena. 12-week sessions are offered twice a year, beginning in January and June. Or simply enjoy your skating while combining it with an intense aerobic workout during the Fit and Trim class offered on Wednesday mornings.
The Minnetonka Ice Arena is also open from September to April for open skating, figure skating and hockey. It is home to the Minnetonka and Hopkins Youth Hockey Associations and the Lake Minnetonka Figure Skating Club.
